Operating between December 1, 2023, and January 7, 2024, the Christmas trams are a key highlight of Budapest’s holiday season. A delightful and affordable activity to indulge in between Christmas and New Year’s Eve, these illuminated trams bring joy and wonder to the city’s streets, inviting everyone to partake in the celebration of the season.

Holiday-Themed Bus Routes: Complementing the radiant Christmas trams, buses in Budapest join the festive spectacle by donning charming lights and other holiday-themed decorations. Four bus lines – No. 91, No. 105, No. 7, and No. 26 – transform into mobile holiday displays, transporting passengers through the city’s adorned streets. These festive buses add an extra layer of merriment to the public transportation experience, turning a simple commute into a joyful journey.

Offering a cost-effective sightseeing tour – requiring only a regular tram ticket – this route provides a comfortable and magical journey along the Danube Promenade. In fact, it has earned the prestigious rank of #7 in National Geographic’s ‘Top 10 Trolley Rides.’ Riding on Tram No. 2 not only allows passengers to bask in the glow of the city lights but also presents an opportunity to marvel at Budapest’s architectural wonders along the Danube River.
