10 must-do programs in Budapest

It’s impossible to mention all of the beauties of the Hungarian capital, but here’s a list of the obligatory programs in Budapest.

  • St Stephen’s Basilica and its neighbourhood

This magnificient cathedral was built in neo-Classical style. The Basilica is the largest church of Budapest with its height of 96 meters. Near, you can find the Gresham Palace, and the monumental buildings of the Liberty Square.

  • The Chain Bridge

The oldest and most beautiful bridge, a well-known landmark of Budapest. The bridge’s stone lions don’t have tongues – try searching for them!

  • The Royal Castle and its neighbourhood

You can easily recorgnize the Castle from the other side of the Danube. The beautiful green cupola and the expansive quarter is one of Buda’s best sights with the Fishermen’s Bastion, the Matthias Church and the National Gallery. If you like romantic walks, visit the cute narrow streets nearby.

  • The Jewish quartier

Not only for its the cultural heritages (like for example the Dohány Street Synagogue or the Kazinczy Street Synagogue) but for the thundering nightlife, cute shops, small cafés, and developing gastronomy, the 7st district is a must for every single tourist.

  • Thermal baths

You should try at least one of the 10 wonderful thermal spas in Budapest. You can choose from huge ones to more intimate baths.

  • Try the real Hungarian cousine

Ok, it’s a hip to eat street food, but it’s obligatory to try the real Hungarian dishes. Don’t fall for the tourist traps on Váci Street. Let us offer you some genius restaurants, like for example Bock Bistro, És Bistro, Baltazár or 21 Restaurant. If you prefer the lower priced but still ok venues, Kádár Kifőzde and Tükhöry Vendéglő could be a good choice.

  • Hero’s Square and Andrássy Avenue

Take a walk from Hero’s Square through the Andrássy Avenue until you reach the Bajcsy-Zsilinszky Street. It’s gonna be more than 2 kilometers, but believe us, it totally worth it! You’ll get to know the international embassy’s buildings, the Opera House, high fashion designer shops, multibrand stores too. If you’re tired, take a coffee break at Művész.

  • Füvészkert, Budapest Zoo and Margaret Island

We love the 8th district’s lovely botanical garden with its beautiful magnolia trees, water lilies, preferably in time of the sakura celebration (cherry tree blossoming). The Zoo is also a good idea, there are lot of exotic animals like wombats, koalas. One of the bigest city parks is Margaret Island, in the middle of Budapest. You can try the famous and funny „bringóhintó” vehicle eating cotton candy and enjoying the nature.

  • Cafés, patisseries

Budapest was known as an intense centre of cafés. Traditional and charming cafés, like New York and Central are still popular. You can feel the old atmosphere with a contemporary fling. Patisseries, as Gerbeaud and August are also good choices. Try some traditional Hungarian pastries and new wave desserts.

  • Boat trip on the Danube

You can’t leave the city without a boat trip on the Danube. BKK boats and private cruises are available, so is the bizarre RiverRide ambiphian bus. If you are interested in hidden secrets, take a ride to Római part, a unique area of Budapest with beachy atmosphere, fish and chips and delightful lemonades.
